The quaint coastal settlement of Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin is the perfect location for a relaxed camping holiday. If that sounds like you, then giving the Waikouaiti Camping Ground a new lease of life may be just the ticket for you.
The camping ground needs an energetic, experienced and friendly operator to take a new long-term lease from 1 July 2025.

This role is ideally suited to someone who is keen to unlock the potential of this perfectly located camp on the South Island’s east coast just a 35 minute drive north of Dunedin on SH 1. We are looking for an operator with ideas that can take the Waikouaiti Camping Ground to the next level.
The camp’s location, a short walk from Waikouaiti beach, golf course and diverse recreational activities, makes it a perfect destination for campers and motor homes. Being handy to Dunedin City it has the benefits of ‘city attractions’ without the noise and congestion.
And its location offers easy access to the recreation and tourism opportunities of Central Otago and Queenstown.
It is situated at 186 Beach Street, Waikouaiti.
Dunedin City Council owns the reserve land that the camp is set on. It has been under lease as a camping ground for more than 30 years. The current lease is short term and will expire on 30 April 2025.
We are keen to find a long term operator with the experience, vision and desire to take Waikouaiti Camping Ground forward.
The Waikouaiti Camping Ground currently provides around 50 powered sites, 40 non powered sites, 4 cabins and can provide Park Over Property (POP) for current NZMCA Members. There are no permanent residents but some ‘long-stay’ camping ground occupiers.
The Council plans to undertake in-ground electrical and water supply network upgrades between May and June 2025 when the camp will be closed.
