Whangaruru Beachfront Camp is situated on the shores of charming Parutahi Bay just inside the entrance of the Whangaruru Harbour, and between Oakura Beach and Ohawini Bay. (Three stunning beaches for the price of one).
Guests have the use of a large fully equipped kitchen. Good clean men’s and women’s shower and toilet blocks and a camp laundry that has washers and dryers available. We have a comprehensive Camp kitchen that contains, Fridges and freezers, hotplates, Convection ovens, toasters, electric kettles, and microwaves.
We have a small Camp Store that stocks the basics, such as: Ice Creams, Cold drinks, Snack Foods. Ice, Salt Ice, and Bait. Tinned and Packet Foods, Milk and Bread. Personal Care Items like Shampoo and Conditioner, toothpaste and tooth brushes etc. Also, some fishing and hardware products, Pander’s and Aqua Shoes and some wet weather games.
Kayaks are for hire, with life jackets. These vary in price depending on the length of hire and the size kayak you hire. We also have anchors available to hire for our fishermen. A boat wash facility and fish filleting bay are available for campers use.
The harbour is a haven for boating, fishing and water sports while the more adventurous can enjoy the open sea and waves of Oakura Beach. The camp was originally ‘over the hill’ on a site at the north end of Oakura Bay until the present site was developed in 1993 and the camp was relocated to its present position on the beach front.
Over the years the camp has been further developed with 2 x 1 bedroom units, 2 x Studio units. 5 Cabins and 91 sites of which 51 are powered. Many families spend their summer holidays here year after year. The beach is usually cairn and very safe for swimming.
The camp has a good safe water supply, hot showers (not metered), -flushing toilets, A kitchen with cooking elements, microwaves, jugs and toasters, fridges and freezers and a laundry with commercial washing machines and clothes dryers.
Just over the hill we have a General Store which stocks pretty much everything you need. We also have a takeaway shop which provides great meals and fresh baked bread on Saturdays and Sundays. Whangarei is a 40 minute drive from camp and has all the major Supermarkets and Department Stores.
