South Taranaki is steeped in history. There are numerous historic sights to visit and ‘secrets’ to uncover. There are many public gardens to visit as well as art galleries. Hawera offers something for just about everybody.
Hosts Dean and Bernie Kira will be happy to point you in the right direction if you want to travel around South Taranaki. The nationally acclaimed Tawhiti Museum with the Whalers and Traders experience is only a ten minute drive away and Surf Highway 45 will take you through Manaia to Opunake. Out East you will find Eltham, famous for its retro shops and South is Patea with Aotea Utanganui, Museum of South Taranaki. South again is Waverley, a lovely rural service town with great beaches nearby. Access to Mt Taranaki is only a half hour drive for tramping and skiing experiences.
