One of New Zealand’s most unique spots for campsites and accommodation.
The Port Waikato Holiday Park is Māori-owned and operated, giving you the culture experience.
Tainui te waka (Tainui is the canoe)
Putataka te Maunga (Putataka is the Mountain)
Waikato te Awa (Waikato is the River)
Waikato-Tainui te Iwi (Waikato-Tainui is the Tribe)
Ngāti Karewa Ngāti Tahinga te hapū (Ngāti Karewa Ngāti Tahinga is the sub-tribe)
Nestled at the end of the mighty Waikato River you’ll find a special, beautiful and sacred place. It is our ancestral home and the Waikato is our Awa (river). Come, let us share the stories of Te Puaha o Waikato (Port Waikato) and feel the mauri (life force) of Papatuanuku (mother earth) as she whispers alluringly of our people’s mana (strength), whakaute (respect) of place and land, and aroha (love).
The lovely property houses an array of accommodation options – namely motel units, cabins, and camping sites. Above all, we cater to varied tastes and budgets. Furthermore, our site has all the facilities you should need. You’ll find a large fully-equipped communal kitchen, hot showers, a laundry room, barbeque areas, a TV lounge, and outdoor table tennis.
Additionally, tamariki (kids) will love the playground and pedal carts for hire, an unhindered space to play and explore!
We like to think the best kai (food) is cooked upon the BBQs, surrounded with whanau (family) and friends however, Pressed and Poured is a quaint little coffee truck located within the parks grounds for a caffeine fix. Open most days from 11 am to 7 pm, Tuesdays to Sundays. Food lovers can tuck into toasted sandwiches and freshly baked muffins while admiring the surroundings.
If you didn’t catch your own fish, grab a delicious burger, fish and fries from the Blacksand Eatery Food Truck. Located right outside the entrance of the Port Waikato Holiday Park, it offers hot food from 11 am to 7 pm, Wednesdays to Sundays, all year round.
For convenience the local Wharf Store has essentials you might need but you’ll also find ice creams and other goods for sale at reception. Grab a cold drink, hire a boggie board or find a souvenir with a warm welcome from our team.
Kua karangatia koe (You are invited!) as we say in Te Reo Māori!
If savouring the delights of nature was a luxury, the Port Waikato Holiday Park is a cornucopia of New Zealand wonders! From the Waikato River to the dunes, you’ll find majestic beauty in our black sand paradise. Surrender yourself to the joys of this timeless cocoon of tranquility.
Whether you’re travelling by campervan, motorhome, car, motorbike or bicycle looking for an escape or an adventure you’re in for a kiwi treat and we have a spot for you! The Port Waikato Holiday Park is a holiday sanctuary you can reset yourself in! Come and see…
